Multi-stakeholder partnerships

Partnership design, implementation and evaluation where we work with you to conceptualise, set up and assess collaborations to improve efficiency, diversify capabilities and drive success. Partnerships can be complex and challenging, but increasingly necessary. Our work typically takes on two forms, depending on the size, nature and maturity of the partnership and we can work with you to, (1) Conceptualise and run (12+ weeks) and/or (2) Evaluate and review (8-12 weeks) as follows:

  • Conceptualise programmes, identify and evaluate potential partners, assess collaborations, and design a compelling strategy for your organisation

  • Identify potential partners and evaluate them for both a strategic and operational fit

  • Review your partnerships at specific junctures or closure and collect, curate and recommend adjustments

  • Help you to set up a monitoring and evaluation process that will help you to make informed decisions

  • Design a compelling strategy for a partnership based on the partnership’s needs with a clear roadmap and explicit measures for success.

Value chain services

Value chain services where we work with you and all actors along the value chain to unlock hidden value, specifically balancing the local and global context for individual commodities and how to share the benefits more equitably from farm to fork. Value chains can be very inefficient, accumulating at each stage, meaning that farmers get less for the produce. We want to help channel that value back down to the farmer and ensure that supply chains are as short, trustworthy, transparent and efficient as possible. Our in-depth research and evaluation (typically 12+ weeks) can help clients in the following ways:

  • Evaluate the commodity or group of commodities to help you share the benefits more equitably from farm to fork between all actors.

  • Analyse each stage of the supply chain to determine where inefficiencies are, recommending remedial actions.

  • Work with all contractors along the value chain to unlock hidden value and ensure transparency of cost, value and origin.

Design nutrition-sensitive programmes

Nutrition-sensitive programme design where we work with you to develop locally relevant nutrition programmes that improve access, availability and quality of food for all beneficiaries. Good nutrition means that people have access to high-quality food and that the food is available and affordable. If a community is not well nourished all other social interventions will be limited in their effectiveness as malnourishment, hidden hunger and wasting have major long-term and often irreversible effects. Our research and programme design (typically 6-12 weeks) can help clients in the following ways:

  • Design programmes that address the triple burden of malnutrition, namely, undernutrition, overnutrition and micro-nutrient deficiency at a macro-level.

  • Define, implement and manage programmes that will help to explain, educate and implement nutritionally sound interventions within a local context.

  • Initiate community programmes to address topics such as maternal, new born and child health, early childhood education, school and community feeding, emergency response, agricultural development, livelihoods and life-long learning, rural and urban development, and include WASH (water and sanitation and hygiene) programmes.

  • Improve logistics, distribution and emergency response planning.

Farmer development services

Farmer development services where we work with farmers and technical assistance entities to implement climate smart agriculture, sustainable farm design, precision agriculture, remote-sensing, market access and farmer/ agribusiness training. Smallholders are disproportionately affected by low productivity, poor access to markets and climate change. We aim to help farmers, co-operatives and organisations to positively shift this dynamic so that farmers can become more effective and resilient through access to relevant knowledge, inputs, markets and financial tools. Our services include engagement and co-curatorship, (typically 24-48 weeks) can help clients in the following ways:

  • Conceptualise and implement climate-smart practices

  • Develop culturally appropriate farmer/agribusiness training programmes

  • Build farmer support networks through professional extension officers and other professionals to leverage relevant technologies based on sustainable design principles
  • Facilitate access to local and international markets and buyers.

Climate change adaption and mitigation research

Agricultural, climate change adaptation and mitigation research where we work with research entities, governments, businesses and development agencies to understand key trends, risks and opportunities in specific countries, regions and commodities to inform policy and support social development. We can help clients to identify and size their exposure, mitigating their risk (4-20 weeks) in the following ways:

  • Identify, articulate and prioritise risks and issues facing your operations or programmes and to maximise opportunities that exist as a direct or indirect result of climate change, especially how it affects food security, resilience, food supply chains and long-term resource planning.

  • Plan for and implement projects, policies or programmes to mitigate and adapt to this potential new reality.
